| Each year the NYC Department of Sanitation Emerald
Society awards two $1500.00 scholarships and two $500.00 savings bonds
to children of DSNY Emerald Society members. Winners are selected based on the scores from the Test for Admission into Catholic High Schools (TACHS). One $1500.00 scholarship is awarded to the boy with the highest score the other $1500.00 scholarship is awarded to the girl with the highest score. The $500.00 savings bonds are awarded to the runner up boy and girl. These awards are open to children of Emerald Society members in good standing for five (5) consecutive years who are currently in the eighth grade and have taken the Catholic High School entrance exam. The exam takes place each year in November and is used by the Catholic High Schools as an aid in the selection process. Registration for the TACHS begins at the start of eighth grade in September and continues until approximately three weeks prior to the exam date.
